Hazelwood Initiative Inc. is currently renovating five homes in Hazelwood as part of its commitment to providing high-quality, affordable homeownership opportunities. These fully rehabilitated homes include a mix of two-, three-, and four-bedroom units, designed to meet modern living standards while ensuring long-term affordability. The homes are expected to be ready for new owners to move in by spring 2026. This initiative strengthens homeownership in the neighborhood and helps preserve affordability for years to come.
The nonprofit is encouraging individuals and families to get ready by reviewing their financial readiness and exploring homebuyer assistance programs. The organization will host a homebuyer workshop on Thursday, April 24, from 5 to 7 p.m. to help prospective homeowners prepare to buy a home in Hazelwood. The workshop will take place at the Hazelwood Initiative offices at 4901 Second Ave., 2nd Floor (entry through the back door).
Attendees will learn about eligibility requirements, financing options and the application process. While this workshop is required for those interested in purchasing one of the organization’s five newly renovated homes, it is also open to anyone looking to buy a home in Hazelwood.
Neighborworks of Western Pennsylvania will provide guidance and information about grants and homeownership classes. First Commonwealth Bank will personally assist you with pre-qualification if you bring your financial documents. To register, visit hazelwoodinitiative.org and select Programs/Buy a Home and complete the homeownership interest form.
Construction financing for the five homes has been provided by First Commonwealth Bank, the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency and the Urban Redevelopment Authority.
